South African pianist Roelof Temmingh has studied piano with Nigel Clayton at the Royal College of Music (RCM) and has received masterclasses from pianists including Seymour Lipkin, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Howard Shelley. He won several competitions in South Africa: The Hennie Joubert Piano Competition, Johann Vos Piano Competition, the Beka Bantwana Music Competition, and also the Stellenbosch Ensemble Competition. Performances include solo and chamber music recitals in South Africa, Lesotho, UK, France, Spain, and Austria, as well as concerto performances across South Africa.

He has been invited to perform at major music festivals in South Africa such as the Woordfees, Aardklop and KKNK and recently performed with his Labuschagne Quartet at the Barnes Festival in England. Career highlights include playing at the annual visit of HRH Prince Charles to the RCM in London 2018. In 2017, he performed the emotionally charged Temmingh Piano Concerto of his belated father, Roelof Temmingh senior (Composer, conductor and organist who sadly passed away in 2012) with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch. Roelof has also performed at the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna, Austria. Another highlight was to perform Prokofiev’s piano concerto no 3 with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban City Hall in 2012.

Roelof is an RCM Award Holder, supported by a Jenny Marsh Chapman Scholarship and finalist for the “Rising Star Award” at the 2018 Annual South African Chambers of Commerce Business Awards in the UK.
